A man from Jharkhand’s Mungeli district accused his mother of being a ‘witch’ and murdered her in cold blood before stuffing her body in a sack and burying it in the backyard of his family home.
Raipur: In Jharkhand’s Mungeli district, a man has been arrested for murdering his own mother and attempting to cover his tracks by burying her body in the backyard of the family home. Identified as Rajkumar Verma of Kanharpur village of Pathariya, the accused was taken into police custody after he confessed to his crimes.
The matter came to light over 10 days after the victim, 65-year-old Jagbai went missing from her home. A police investigation was initiated after her son-in-law filed a missing person complaint with the local police on January 4. Acting on his complaint, police officials began probing the matter and spoke to the deceased’s son and his wife.
However, officials suspected foul play when Rajkumar and his wife kept changing their statements to the police.
During the course of interrogation, Rajkumar broke down and told officials that he strangulated his mother, stuffed her body in a sack and buried it in the backyard of their family home with the help of his wife who has also been arrested. Following his confession, police officials recovered the decaying body of the woman from the spot.
Shockingly enough, the accused told police inspectors that he murdered his own mother because he believed that she was a ‘tonhi’ (witch). He blamed her for the death of his father, said an official familiar with the matter adding that he was under the impression that she murdered his father using black magic or occult practices.
